Zerodha is now the largest discount broker in India with over 1.5+ million customers base having a daily turnover of over Rs. 15,000+ crores over NSE, BSE, MCX, and MCX-SX. Charges levied by Zerodha are also nominal & they provide a very decent advanced trading platform.
Zerodha brokerage is 0.01% or Rs 20 per executed order (whichever is lower) irrespective of a number of shares or their prices.
I recommend you to opt for the online method while opening your account with Zerodha as it’s faster & hassle-free. It looks like there are too many steps involved but it’s not the case. This will hardly take more then 15-20 minutes if you have all the documents handy.
Zerodha Online Account Opening Process (Using Aadhar)
Now let’s get started with Zerodha Demat & Trading account opening Process. First understand, what you will be needed to open a new account.
Online Zerodha Account Opening Opening Charges
You need to pay Rs. 200 for online Demat+Trading account opening in (Equity & Currency) segments & Rs.100 for commodity account opening.
The cost of opening an account online is lesser than that of opening offline accounts, If you choose to open an account offline, you will be charged Rs 300 additionally.
Online Zerodha Account Opening Documents
You are required to submit these documents for the zerodha account opening.
- Pan Card
- Aadhar Card (For Online Account Opening)
- Personalized Cancelled cheque or Front Page of Passbook [Bank Proof]
- Scanned Signature
- Bank statement Last 6 month (Optional)

Zerodha Sign up Account Opening
You need to visit Zerodha signup page for new account opening (Click here). Then you just need to enter the mobile number & verify the OTP. Then You will be required to enter your Name, Mobile No & Email Id & Click on “Continue” for Signup.
Then you’ll be required to enter your PAN, bank account, Aadhar verification, and personal details to continue with the account opening process.

You need to Enter PAN Card Details & Date Of Birth.

Zerodha Account Opening Charges
You can pay Zerodha account openingfees using preferred payment options. If you only want to trade in equity then make a payment of only Rs. 200. In case, you also want to open a commodity account you need to pay an extra Rs. 100. -
Signup for Digilocker Account
After paying account opening charges. You need to signup for Digilocker Account, so you could be able to share your aadhar details with Zerodha. -
Enter KYC details
Now you need to fill required KYC details with Zerodha as Bank Details, Mother & Father name, Marital Status and Trading Experience & etc.

IPV (In-person verification)
You need to do IPV verification. An OTP will then be generated after entering the mobile no. as shown on your screen and sent to your registered mobile and email. You need to show this OTP from the Mobile or written on a piece of paper. So that it is visible on the webcam. The camera would then take a series of photos from the video to capture the OTP.

Signing Zerodha Account Opening Documents
Now you have 2 options either choose Aadhar E-sign (Need to Upload documents Online) or offline account opening (Print & courier- Need to send all documents physically to Zerodha H.O.)
If you choose the first option for Aadhar E-Sign you can open your account instantly.
In the Offline case, you need to download the account opening form offline & take printout & courier physically signed documents to Zerodha Head office mentioned at end of this article. -
Uploading Zerodha Account Opening Documents
In the case of Aadhar based online Zerodha account opening, you need to click “Continue” under the “Aadhar” Tab. Then you need to upload a scanned copy of all required documents.

Aadhar E-Sign Account Opening Form
Then DigiGo screen will pop up for E-Signing for online Zerodha account opening. You need to create a DigiGo account & then need to enter aadhar No. after that you will receive an OTP

POA- Power Of Attorney (Not Mandatory)
There is a new way to sell your holdings without having to go through the hassle of sending a physical courier to Zerodha Head-office. It is called the e-DIS that stands for electronic Delivery Instruction Slip. This will be enabled after account opening when you will sell the shares.
This one-time consent that allows us to use his instructions while placing a sell order to debit shares from his Demat use this method only for shares sold worth up to Rs 25 lakh per day, per client, and across all his holdings.If you do not wish to see the option of E-DIS while trading, then you will be required to courier the physical copy of the POA form to Zerodha Head office mentioned below.

Now you are all done with the online a/c opening process. Your account will be activated within 24-48 hours.
Zerodha Offline Account Opening Process
Sometimes you may have not your aadhar card link with mobile no. In this case, you can opt for an offline Zerodha account opening process. You need to signup for offline account Opening by clicking on the link given above after filling this contact form Zerodha sales team will help you in account opening.
Now, you need to download Zerodha account opening form pdf & signing instruction from Link given below. You don’t need to fill up the details in the account opening form you just have to physically sign the form & attached documents, rest will be done by the Zerodha team.
You have to follow these simple steps to open an offline account.
Offline Zerodha Account Opening Charges
If you want to open an offline account in Zerodha then you need to pay Zerodha Demat account charges as :
- Rs. 400- Only for Trading & DEMAT (Equity & Currency)
- Rs. 600- for Trading, Demat & Commodity Account
Offline Zerodha Account Opening Documents
- You have to provide a self-attested PAN Copy.
- You have to attach a self-attested address proof, you can use any documents as address proof:
- Aadhaar Card
- Passport Copy
- Driving Licence
- Gas Bill
- Electricity Bill
- Bank Statement
- You have to provide valid bank proof for linking the bank account with Zerodha trading account
- Latest Bank Statement with IFSC and MICR mentioned on it – self-attested
- Personalized Cancelled Cheque with IFSC and MICR
- Bank Pass Book with IFSC and MICR – self-attested
- If you want to activate Futures and Options segment (Optional), then you have to provide a valid self-attested income proof, Income Proof Accepted:
- Latest 6 months bank statement
- Salary slip
- ITR Copy or Form 16
- Demat Holdings Statement
Then you need to print Zerodha offline account opening form after downloading & follow the signing instruction. Make sure you have signed in all the places required, i.e., all the F (first holder) boxes.
Please check if all the documents are clearly printed. Now you have to courier these documents to Zerodha head office address mentioned below.
